Vietnam - Papua New Guinea Relations


The two countries signed a joint communiqué to establish diplomatic relations on November 3, 1989. The Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia is accredited to Papua New Guinea. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea paid an official visit to Vietnam from October 31 to November 6, 1989. The two countries also have other contacts and collaboration in such multilateral fora as ASEAN and the UN. 
In recent meetings, Papua New Guinean leaders expressed their appreciation of the position of Viet Nam in the region as well as in international community, attached much importance to the relations with Vietnam, especially in trade, rice cultivation and other fields, and in multilateral frameworks. Papua New Guinea considers Vietnam’s development applicable model and wishes to exchange delegations at high level to deepen mutual understanding and seek ways to promote multi-faceted cooperation.
