VIETNAM AND THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA RELATIONS
On July 1st 1994, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam announced its recognition and established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with the Republic of Croatia. Viet Nam has appointed its Ambassador to Hungary, concurrently to Croatia. The first ambassador presented credential on February 28th 2002. Croatia has appointed its ambassador to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), concurrently to Viet Nam. Croatia’s first ambassador presented credential in September 1996. The Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister (December 1998) and Economic Minister (October 2001) paid visits to Viet Nam. Viet Nam’s Deputy Foreign Minister visited Croatia in July 2001 and May 2007. On March/2008, the Croatian President Stjepan Mesic paid an official visit in Vietnam, the two sides have signed agreements on Economic Cooperation and on visa abolishment for diplomatic and official passport holders. The bilateral two-way trade has mainly been performed through a third country. The 2011 trade turnover reached around 100 million USD.
