- September 1991: Vietnam recognized Lithuania's independence.

- 18 March 1992, Vietnam and Lithuania signed Protocol on Establishment of Diplomatic Relations at Ambassadorial level.

- The Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland also assumes the post of Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania.

- The Lithuanian Ambassador to China assumes the post of Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

- September 1995, Lithuanian Prime Minister arrived in Vietnam on an official visit, signing an Agreement on Investment Promotion and Protection and an Agreement on Economic Cooperation.

- November 1995, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Khánh visited Lithuania.

- October 2004, Lithuanian Head of State participated in ASEM meetings in Hanoi.
