Viet Nam regrets non-issuance of AMM-45 Joint Communiqué

In response to question from the media on the non-issuance of the 45th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-45) Joint Communiqué, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh on July 13 said:

The Vietnamese delegation, together with other ASEAN countries, regrets that the 45th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-45) has failed to issue the Joint Communiqué which reflects the process of discussion and positive outcomes achieved in the ASEAN meetings and those between ASEAN and its partners.

Throughout the discussion of the Joint Communiqué, ASEAN countries,  ASEAN Foreign Ministers themselves have made utmost efforts, contributed constructively to lay out various most possible formulas so as to reflect the common interest of ASEAN member states. There were opportunities for consensus and unanimity. Regrettably those opportunities were missed albeit the positive, constructive efforts made by the ASEAN Foreign Ministers.

With or without the Joint Communiqué, Viet Nam believes that decisions which have been made upon by ASEAN have to be strictly observed. Now,  more than ever, ASEAN countries should uphold their responsibility, maintain and strengthen unity, and effectively play its key role in and contribute to the prioritized and essential issues of ASEAN and the region, especially the Community building; promote regional links and connectivity; construct an environment of peace, stability, security and cooperation; enhance relations with partners; and effectively address emerging challenges for peace, stability, security, cooperation and development in the region.
