Norwegian King visits southern city


Ha Noi (VNA) - Norwegian King Harald V and Queen Sonja and their entourage visited Ho Chi Minh City from Nov.3-5.

 

The city's leadership gave a banquet the Norwegian King and Queen at the Thong Nhat Palace on Thursday evening.

 

King Harald V praised the fruitful meetings and discussions between the business communities of the two countries early the same day, promising a prospect for bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries. The King believed that Norway-Viet Nam cooperative ties would further develop, particularly in economic cooperation.

 

During their stay in HCM City, the Norwegian royalties witnessed the signing of an agreement on supplement to a project on improving HCM City's environment, and met officials attending the Viet Nam-Norway Business Forum.

 

The King attended the opening ceremony of a maritime training course under a cooperation programme between the Norwegian Maritime Institute and the Viet Nam College for Foreign Trade.

 

Queen Sonja attended a seminar on Viet Nam-Norway gastronomy at the Sheraton Hotel.

The royal couple also visited the Cu Chi tunnel.

 

In the morning, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan and Norwegian Ambassador to Viet Nam Per G.Stavnum signed an agreement on a non-refundable aid worth 700,000 USD to supplement to a project on environmental  improvement in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

The sum will be channelled to the project's two sub-projects to develop a master plan on hazardous wastes and to monitor the quality of air in the city.

 

Also on Thursday, King Harald V, Queen Sonja and their entourage visited the Jotun Paint Company in the Song Than I industrial zone and the Yara Fertiliser Company in the Phu My industrial zone, in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the two companies were invested by Norwegian businessmen.
