Prime Minister meets South African NA Speaker
Cape Town, Nov. 23 (VNA) - Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on Tuesday met with South African National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete in Cape Town, South Africa, during his official visit to the country.
The Vietnamese PM congratulated South Africa on its success in the process of democracy and national conciliation and explained how Viet Nam and South Africa were both colonial countries, and have supported each other in their respective struggles for national independence and now cooperate in their national constructions.
He expressed his hope that this South Africa visit by the Vietnamese senior government officials would begin a new page in the two countries' relations. He expressed his deep sympathy to the host over the death of Chairwoman of the National Council of Provinces Joyce Kgoali. He conveyed Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An's invitation to Speaker Baleka Mbete to visit Viet Nam.
The South African NA Speaker accepted the invitation with pleasure and said he hoped that the two national assemblies would boost cooperation and exchange experience in the future.
Cape Town Governor Ebrahim Rasool paid a courtesy visit to PM Khai on Monday.
