President Tran Duc Luong: Diplomatic activities are vitally important to the development of Viet Nam.
Ha Noi, (VNA) - President Tran Duc Luong urged Vietnamese ambassadors to remember to develop relations not only with official diplomatic agencies, but also with politicians, organisations and people in their host countries, in order to help those countries better understand and improve their relations with Viet Nam.
At a meeting with newly-appointed ambassadors to some foreign countries, the leader affirmed that diplomatic activities are vitally important to the development of Viet Nam.
He said that the Resolution of the Party Central Committee's 8th session emphasised the importance of foreign affairs for the maintenance of a peaceful and stable environment and the development of healthy international cooperative relations.
At present, while performing their task of promoting economic, scientific and technological cooperation and cultural exchange with foreign countries, ambassadors have a tremendous opportunity, Luong said, as Viet Nam's prestige and position have been markedly improved in the international arena.
The leader called upon the ambassadors to take advantage of the opportunity to instruct those countries on Viet Nam's open-door foreign policy of diversification, multilateralisation, and internal non-interference, and befriend them for the creation of a peaceful and productive environment.
Ambassadors are not only a bridge in economic relations, but also advise localities, ministries, services and businesses and make useful proposals to the Party and State, President Luong said, adding that foreign affairs should be intensively renovated.
The leader also asked ambassadors to implement the Politburo's Resolution 36 on overseas Vietnamese affairs, which protects the Vietnamese community's interests in the host countries. He also urged them to maintain unity and fulfil their noble mission to help further increase Viet Nam's prestige in the international arena./.
