Canadian Consulate General donates 350ml. VND to cancer research
HCM City (VNA) - The Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City and Manulife Viet Nam Limited have donated 350 million VND (22,194 USD) to the municipal Centre of Tumours to purchase facilities for cancer research.
The funding was presented to the Centre by the Canadian Consul General and the General Director of the insurance company in the city on Mar. 15.
The proceeds were raised from a charitable marathon, named after Terry Fox, which was jointly held by the Consulate General in co-operation with Manulife Viet Nam Limited in the city last November. The event drew over 3,000 people.
Terry Fox, a young Canadian man, had suffered from bone cancer since he was 18 and died in 1981. Prior to his death, Terry Fox travelled around Canada to raise funds for cancer research./.
