Vietnam wants to share experience in poverty alleviation
The Vietnamese diplomat told G-77 representatives that despite progress made in co-operation for economic growth and trade liberalisation over the past five years, developing countries have not yet achieved substantial economic development, equal interests and the equality in development gap. Most southern economies remain poor and underdeveloped and suffer from frequent diseases, natural disasters and conflicts that hinder sustainable development.
The world therefore will find it hard to fulfil its millennium targets on hunger elimination and poverty reduction, he emphasized.
Mr Bang also called on countries in G-77 forums, Non-Aligned Movements, and other international forums to call for an end to trade protectionism, and the discrimination or isolation of developing nations while increasing efforts to maintain 2+1 ties that promote co-operation between two developing countries and a developed partner.
"Nations should share experiences in sustainable economic development and poverty alleviation. Vietnam itself is willing to share its experiences in this field according to the 2+1 co-operation or other patterns," Mr Bang said.
He also asked the Inter-Governmental Follow-up and Co-ordination Committee on Economic Co-operation among Developing Countries (IFCC) to reaffirm its stand that developed countries have to reserve at least 0.7% of GDP for official development assistance (ODA) as committed before the UN.
