South African President praises Viet Nam
(VNA) - President Thabo Mbeki on June 17 praised the traditional friendship between South Africa and Viet Nam and spoke highly of Viet Nam's role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in particular and in Asia in general.
The South African President talked with new Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Duy Thi after receiving his credentials in Pretoria. The President said he will pay an official visit to Viet Nam in the near future to boost bilateral cooperative ties.
Ambassador Thi conveyed good will from President Tran Duc Luong and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai to President Mbeki. He expressed his appreciation of South Africa's role in Africa as well as at international forums.
The Vietnamese ambassador stressed that the visit to South Africa by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai late last year and President Mbeki's future Viet Nam visit will develop the two nations' relationship further and actively contribute to the Asia-Africa Strategy Forum.
