The Mexican Government supports Vietnam's bid to join the World Trade Organisation, said Mexico's Sub-Secretary of External Relations Lourdes Aranda during her talks with the Vietnamese Prime Minister's special envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Dung.

The two diplomats held talks in Mexico on June 26 to discuss prospects of bilateral relations and exchange views on international issues.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at the new developments in the two countries' co-operation, describing them as practical celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-Mexico diplomatic ties. They agreed to continue their co-ordination and mutual support at international forums, and stressed the need to boost two-way trade, which stands at  US $187 million a year, to a same level equal to the two countries' potentials.

Sub-secretary Aranda pledged to promote bilateral negotiations in Geneva for Vietnam's early full membership to the WTO. Mexico, the host country of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) forum in 2002, is ready to share experiences with Vietnam and help the country organise the 2006 APEC summit in Hanoi.

Special envoy Dung conveyed PM Khai's invitation to Mexican President Vicente Fox to visit Vietnam and attend the APEC forum in Hanoi.
