Vietnamese youths do utmost for success of World Youth Festival

(VNA): "We will do our utmost for the success of the 16th World Festival of Students and Youth," said Dao Ngoc Dung, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU), to VNA correspondent before leaving for Venezuela for the Festival.

Dung will lead a Vietnamese youth delegation of 164 members, including 141 departing from Vietnam, to attend the biggest annual event of youths in the world which is scheduled to be held from August 7-15 in Venezuela.

Dung said the Vietnamese delegates will join in almost all activities at the Festival, including discussions, seminars, meetings between social activists, a court against imperialism, a fair of unity, and cultural and sports activities.

Especially, Dung said, the delegation will hold two seminars. One is named "Vietnam - 60 years of national independence and socialism" to introduce the land and people of the country, policies of the Party and State, and its achievements in national construction and defence. The second seminar, on the consequences of Agent Orange sprayed by the US army in Vietnam and the country's struggle for peace and justice, aims to call on world people and youths to support the Vietnamese AO victims' fight for justice.

In addition, the delegation will organise an exhibition on the Vietnamese land and people, a Vietnamese day, as well as food fairs and music performances at the Festival. They will have about 50 bilateral meetings with other delegations and youth organisations from other countries.

Regarding Vietnamese youths' international activities and contributions to the world youth movement, Dung said: "Vietnamese youths have been actively taking part in the international co-operation process. All their activities in knowledge, culture, science and technology are aimed to serve the country's integration process. Their movements and activities in recent years will help them to be ready in terms of thinking, professional skills and behaviour for the integration process."

Dung added, Vietnam always actively contributes to the world youth movement such as hosting many conferences of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, and taking part in the federation's activities. Vietnam's opinions at international forums are always highly appreciated.

"The fact that Vietnam is sending a large delegation to the 16th World Festival of Youth is an active contribution to the world youth movement, especially considering that the movement is facing many difficulties," Dung said in conclusion.
