Vietnam, Switzerland end WTO entry talks

Vietnam and Switzerland have ended their bilateral negotiations for Vietnam's entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation announced in Hanoi on August 18.

Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Trade Luong Van Tu met with the ambassador in charge of trade negotiations, who is from the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, in Bern on August 16, and both sides have agreed to finish their bilateral talks for Vietnam's admission to the WTO.

A signing ceremony for an official agreement will be held this month at the earliest, the committee said.

The committee added that the successful bilateral talks with Switzerland, an important partner in the WTO, would facilitate Vietnam's admission to the world's largest trade organisation.

Vietnam has already finished bilateral talks with the European Union, Bulgaria, Turkey and Iceland.
