Vice President praises development of bilateral ties with Australia

(VNA) - Vice State President Truong My Hoa has noted with satisfaction the positive developments in relations between Viet Nam and Australia.

Meeting with the visiting Governor of New South Wales state, Ms Marie Bashir, in Ha Noi on Oct. 5, the Vice President said the results of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Australia in February this year reflected the two countries' desire to further boost their relations for the practical interests of the two people.

Hoa thanked the Australian Government for its assistance to Viet Nam's socio-economic development. She said Australia's ODA projects have contributed to Viet Nam's rural development and poverty reduction, with the My Thuan bridge as a symbol of the efficiency of Australia's assistance.

She said she highly appreciated the cooperation and assistance the New South Wales state and the Governor herself have given to the Vietnamese people in healthcare, education and industry in recent years.

For her part, Governor Marie Bashir also highlighted the smooth relations between Viet Nam and Australia in general and New South Wales in particular. She expressed the wish that more Vietnamese students will go to study in New South Wales.
