Cuba, Viet Nam celebrate 45 years of diplomatic ties

(VNA) - Viet Nam is determined to strengthen and develop the friendship and comprehensive co-operation between both parties and peoples, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan on Nov. 30 at a function to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Viet Nam-Cuba diplomatic ties.

Despite difficulties and hardships, Viet Nam and Cuba have always tried to promote co-operation in economics, trade, science and technology, culture, health and education, Khoan said.

In particular, Cuba has helped Viet Nam train a contingent of workers in different fields, making great contributions to Viet Nam's national development and defence, the deputy PM said.

Khoan said Cuba was the first country to finish bilateral negotiations with Viet Nam in the latter's bid to join the World Trade Organisation.

Cuban ambassador Jesus Aise Sotolongo said that since 1960, relations between the two countries have constantly been improved.

Both countries should make greater efforts in economic co-operation to create better living standards for their people, the Cuban ambassador added./.
