Government satisfied with record economic growth
Almost all economic targets have been achieved or surpassed, bringing the per-capita average income to 640 USD, according the Government's December report.
Export revenues reached more than 32.2 billion USD and imports reached more than 36.8 billion USD. Foreign investments increased to over 5.85 billion USD, the largest amount since 1997.
For the 2006 tasks, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai asked cabinet members to focus on development investment, the fight against corruption in infrastructure projects and administrative reform while enforcing two freshly-approved laws, one on corruption and the other on thrift practice and wastefulness combat.
In regard to bird flu control, PM Khai called for vigilance against the outbreaks of the epidemic, especially among humans.
In reply, the Chief Inspector reported the Government's programme of action on deploying the law on corruption while the Finance Minister reported the roadmap for implementing the law on thrift practice and wastefulness combat./.
