State President calls for solidarity among NAM members

(VNA) - Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet on September 15 delivered a speech at a general discussion between heads of delegations attending the 14 th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Havana.

State President Triet stressed that the strength of solidarity and coherence has helped the movement played an increasingly important role and kept a more influential voice in addressing regional and global issues of common concerns.

He repeated the famous saying by the late President Ho Chi Minh: "Solidarity, Solidarity, Great Solidarity. Success, Success, Great Success."

The President urged NAM member countries to further strengthen solidarity and collaborate their positions at multi-lateral forums, bring into full play the movement’s collective strength to make its voice better heard when it comes to peace, security and development-related issues as well as the policy making process of the international community.

" NAM should further enhance its role in addressing international economic and trade issues," said President Triet, adding that "cooperation and experience sharing on socio-economic development should be increased."

"Non-Aligned Movement countries need to better tap their own potentials while taking advantages of external resources through effective social and economic cooperation models, including South-South and North-South cooperation," he said.

The President expressed his belief that the event will leave a hallmark as a summit of solidarity, determination and wisdom and open up a new historic stage of the movement in the 21 st century.

President Triet on Sept. 16 told reporters accompanying him to Havana that Viet Nam is willing to share experiences in tri-partite cooperation that includes two developing countries and a donor as it has been doing with African countries with efficient results.

Viet Nam has been making considerable contributions to NAM and will continue to do it in the future, emphasised the State President.

Earlier on Sept. 15, Triet met on seperate occasions with Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbaryar, President of the Dominican Republic Leonel Fernandez and Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

During the meetings, the State leader affirmed Viet Nam's external opening policy to multilaterise and diversify its international relations.
"Viet Nam is a friend and reliable partner," he said.

Triet also expressed wishes to boost and expand cooperation with other countries, especially in economics, trade and investment.

On Sept. 14, the first lady Triet received President of the Cuba-Viet Nam Friendship Association Giolanda Ferrer and handed over 200 tonnes of washing powder worth 200,000 USD as gift from the Daso detergent company./.
