Viet Nam to learn from China's legislative experiences

Viet Nam is eager to learn from the National People's Congress (NPC) of China in the areas of law making, enforcement of the legislative body's supervisory power, reduction of poverty and a host of other social issues.

That was the comment made by Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet in his meeting with NPC's Chairman Wu Bangguo in Beijing on May 17.

President Triet, who kicked off his first official visit to China on May 15, said his visit was geared towards reinforcing the bonds between the two Parties, States and peoples.

He expressed his delight at the great achievements that China has accomplished and stated that he was confident that under the Communist Party of China's leadership, the Chinese people would successfully reach their targets of building a developed society while intensifying the modernisation process.

The Chinese top legislator saluted President Triet and his entourage, saying the visit was a milestone in bilateral relations between the two neighbours.

Also on the afternoon of May 17, the two sides signed some agreements on future cooperation, including a diplomatic note on the Chinese Government's support in training Vietnamese officials and experts, a memorandum of understanding between Viet Nam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and China's Trade Ministry and a framework agreement on preferential credit for exports between the Finance Ministry of Viet Nam and the Export-Import Bank of China.

The Ministry of Culture and Information of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Culture of China signed a plan to implement an agreement on cultural cooperation between the two countries for the 2007-2009 period.

The railway operators of the two countries also inked an agreement on using the same kind of containers.

Earlier, President Triet and his entourage visited the Beijing Economic-Technical Development Zone and the Olympic Games village for the 2008 Summer Games./.
