Bangkok Bank promotes investment in Vietnam

The Bangkok Bank Public Company is organizing a fact-finding trip to Vietnam for representatives of more than 50 Thai companies this month.

The trip, which covers Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City, aims to help Thai investors find investment and business opportunities in Vietnam, said the bank's HCMC branch manager, Tharabodee Serng-Adichatwit.

While the bank was holding celebrations for its 15-year Vietnam anniversary in HCMC last week, the bank's head office hosted a seminar on investment in Vietnam for more than 400 interested Thai parties in Bangkok.

The bank has organized investment seminars as well as investment trips to Vietnam while its Research Department has issued investment guidelines for Thai business and people who are interested in investing in Vietnam.

"Our strength includes knowledge about Vietnam's investment regulations. We are able to guide and provide all information about the Investment Law to foreign investors, and even to help them choose locations for their investment projects," said Tharabodee.

As Bangkok Bank is a universal banking group with expertise in securities, insurance and banking products, the bank can utilize its resources as needed in the local market.

Tharabodee said the bank's head office is the consultant to Thailand's Board of Investment, the Thai Government Agency (similar to Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment) to assist Thai business-people investing in Vietnam.
"We are the investment information centre for Thai investors," said Tharabodee.

"We are proud of our small contribution to Vietnam's success in the financial sector and in the investment climate."

He said the HCMC branch attained a year-on-year growth of over 25 percent in the first half of 2007. It also planned to double its lending portfolio in 1 to 2 years.

Established in 1944, Bangkok Bank is one of the biggest commercial banks in the region with more than 600 domestic and 22 overseas branches in 12 countries and territories. Its HCMC branch started operation in July 1992, as the first foreign bank branch operational in Vietnam after the American war, which ended in 1975. ( VNS, Thanh Nien)
