Vietnam becomes the world’s largest cashew nut exporter

India is no longer the world’s largest cashew nut exporter. This position belongs to Vietnam, according to the Indian Times newspaper on November 9.

According to the latest report, Vietnam has exported around 126,000 tonnes of cashew nuts to foreign markets in 2006, up 16 percent compared to the previous year.

This is the first time Vietnam has exported more cashew nuts than India. In the 2007 fiscal year, India plans to export 118,540 tonnes of cashew nuts while Vietnam set a target to export 130,000 tonnes to the US, China, and the European Union.

Vietnam has become the largest cashew nut exporter right after successfully processing both processing both domestic and imported cashew nuts from Asia and Africa. Previously, Vietnam sold unprocessed cashew nuts to India but now it can process as well.

The newspaper said apart from essential goods such as coffee, pepper, cashew nuts and seafood, Vietnam also produces other goods such as tea and rubber for export. (VOV)
