NA Chairman sets major tasks for diplomatics
Ha Noi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the diplomatic sector to further uphold the country’s position by expanding their work in a comprehensive, concentrative and effective manner.
Talking with the Foreign Ministry’s staff at a meeting held on January 30 on the occasion of the approaching Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, Chairman Trong stressed that diplomatic activities must serve the tasks of socio-economic development, industrialisation and modernisation.
He urged the sector to take initiative in expanding relations with new partners alongside with strengthening the existing ties.
Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh reported that the ministry in 2008 will focus on carrying out Viet Nam ’s duties as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and completing border demarcation and landmark planting with China and Cambodia .
The ministry will also actively participate in regional and global economic institutions, intensify diplomatic activities to serve economic development, and speed up work related to overseas Vietnamese communities.
