Bangkok (VNA) – Outstanding overseas Vietnamese in Thailand have been presented with certificates of merits for their contributions to community development and national construction and defence.
The presentation was held in Bangkok on Feb. 4 by Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Duy Hung, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem.
Among the recipients was Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhay, President of the Maneerathphuedphon Group, a farm produce import and export business. The group has done a lot to introduce many made-in-Viet Nam products to Thai consumers.
In 2007, the group earned more than 34 million USD from trading Vietnamese goods, including pepper, cashew nuts, beans and peanut, helping to make Vietnamese products popular in Thailand .
According to Ambassador Hung, the presentation was made in recognition of the contributions made by these overseas Vietnamese to the national construction and progress, as well as the development of ties between Viet Nam and Thailand .
The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand planned to set up overseas Vietnamese associations in Bangkok and other localities in Thailand in 2008 in a move to encourage more contributions from the Vietnamese community abroad to the national development and to foster relations and cooperation between the two countries.
