Fourth ASEAN Law Forum opens in Hanoi
Hanoi (VNA) – The fourth ASEAN Law Forum on Mutual Judicial Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters opened in Hanoi on April 8.
More than 40 representatives from ASEAN nations, the association’s Secretariat and experts from the Hague Conference on Private International Law, China and Australia are attending the two-day forum.
The forum must use collective determination and intelligence to reflect on the most suitable direction, either joining the Hague Conventions or building ASEAN members’ own legal tools, said Vietnamese Justice Minister Ha Hung Cuong at the opening ceremony.
The participants will discuss multilateral cooperation on international judicial assistance, the law and reality in ASEAN members regarding mutual judicial assistance in civil and commercial matters as well as the Hague Conventions matters.
The Ministry of Justice hosted the forum to respond to the country’s initiative at the sixth ASEAN Law Ministers Meeting (ALAWMM) held in Hanoi in 2005.
Through the forum, the ministry expects to gather and exchange ideas on judicial assistance in civil and commercial matters while compiling the nation’s initiative for the next ALAWMM.
