Vietnam, Laos promote relations at border
Kon Tum (VNA)- The promotion of economic ties and strengthened border security were main topics at a high-level working session between the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum and its neighbouring Lao province of Se Kong .
The meeting, held in Kon Tum of Vietnam on May 6, proposed the two central Governments issue investment and economic policies in support of communities on the either side of common border.
Authorities from the two provinces also reached a consensus on an early deployment of a project to upgrade and increase the density of the marker systems along the common border between the two countries.
The Se Kong side pledged to do its utmost to help the Vietnamese neighbour to locate and repatriate remains of its soldiers and experts who were killed on the Lao side during wartime.
Kon Tum and Se Kong share 78 km of border which is marked with the Bo Y international border gate on the Vietnamese side and Fukua on the Lao side.
The border gate at Dak Blo of Vietnam and Kak Ba of Laos is in the process of being upgraded in an effort to boost trade along the borderline.
Over recent years, the two provinces have worked closely in border patrol to curb illegal cross-border immigration, logging and land invasion. There has also been a flourish in the barter of goods, trade and exchange of culture along the border.
Local authorities said they have always encouraged businesses to facilitate commerce and trade partnerships with each other.
