Former vice president meets Vietnamese expatriates in Japan


Tokyo (VNA) – Former Vice President Truong My Hoa praised the Vietnamese community in Japan for their practical contributions to their homeland during her Japan visit from May 14-19.

Meeting with Vietnamese expatriates in Tokyo on May 18, Hoa, who is chairwoman of the Sponsoring Council for the Overseas Vietnamese Community, said as the relationship between Vietnam and Japan is developing, every Vietnamese national in Japan should act as a messenger to help Japanese people understand more about the Vietnamese land and people.

She affirmed that the Party and the State have always paid attention to the Oveseas Vietnamese communities and encouraged them to make contributions to their homeland.

Huynh Tri Chanh, a representative from the Vietnamese People Society in Japan , pledged to develop the Vietnamese community and organise various activities to help disadvantaged people in Vietnam .

Do Manh Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Youth and Students’ Association (VYSA) in Japan , said over recent years, VYSA’s Golden Heart Fund has raised money to help flood and Agent Orange victims and granted scholarships for underpriviledged children in Vietnam .

As part of her visit to Japan from May 14-19, Hoa attended a congress of the Japanese Cleft Palate Association, which has carried out surgical operations for more than 2,000 Vietnamese cleft palate children, built a number of consulting rooms and provided medical equipment for Vietnam.
