National Assembly leader meets Hungarian President
Budapest (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong met with Hungarian President Solyom Laszlo on June 16 during his three-day official friendship visit to the European country.
President Laszlo spoke highly of the Vietnamese NA Chairman’s visit. He said he believed that the success of the visit will help further the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
He praised the increased important role of the Vietnamese legislature, which he said reflects strengthened democracy in the country’s political life.
The Hungarian President expressed his keen interest in the renewal of the Vietnamese NA’s operations, especially the supervision and questioning work.
President Laszlo also emphasised the need to organise activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Hungary-Vietnam diplomatic ties in 2010.
Chairman Trong shared his host’s view that the economic, trade and investment ties between Vietnam and Hungary should be promoted to match both countries’ potential and both people’s desires.
On the same day, NA Chairman Trong and his Hungarian counterpart Szili Katalin attended the Vietnam-Hungary business forum, jointly held by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries.
Chairman Trong said that after almost 60 years of the establishment of bilateral ties, the two countries’ relationship has entered a new period of development.
“Through Hungary , Vietnam can penetrate into the European Union market and vice versa, Vietnam can help Hungary access the Southeast Asian and Asian markers more easily,” the Vietnamese NA leader said.
He went on to say that though the Vietnam-Hungary economic and trade relations have seen fast development at over 60 percent in 2007, two way trade remained modest with 90 million USD. There are currently only four Hungarian projects in Vietnam, he noted.
The Vietnamese NA leader urged Hungarian businesses to invest more in Vietnam in the fields that are Hungary’s strengths, particularly hi-tech sector.
He promised that the Vietnamese legislature will create the most favourable conditions for investors.
Hungarian NA Speaker Katalin stressed that the relationship between Hungary and Vietnam is not merely a relationship between a member of the EU and a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) but a strategic relationship between the two regions.
The visit by NA Chairman Trong and his entourage is a further step forward of the bilateral ties, said Speaker Katalin.
The Hungarian legislative leader suggested both sides create a favourable framework and environment for bilateral economic, trade and tourism ties among other fields, thus benefiting both sides and contributing to the two peoples’ prosperity.
The Vietnamese NA leader also received a delegation of the Hungary-Vietnam Friendship Association and granted an interview to the Hungarian National Television on renewal achievements and the process to build a market economy in Vietnam .
Earlier, the high-ranking Vietnamese NA delegation also met with Vietnamese living in Hungary.
