PM meets Overseas Vietnamese in US


Washington D.C. (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasised that the Party and the State always hope overseas Vietnamese integrate well into their resident countries, help one another in economic development, preserve national cultural identity and

PM Dung made the statement during his meeting with the Vietnamese embassy’s staff, Vietnamese students and overseas Vietnamese in the US in the morning of June 24.

The Vietnamese Government leader said his current US visit aims to consolidate and enhance cooperative relations with the US for mutual benefit.

The top priority given to promoting economic, trade and investment relations with the US is considered a foundation and a motivation power to boost the bilateral ties in different domains such as education and training, science and technology and environment, he added.

“The community of more than 3 million Vietnamese people abroad, half of whom in the US , is an inseparable part of the nation,” the Vietnamese PM said.

He said ministries, branches and sectors were currently amending, supplementing and building policies relating to overseas Vietnamese in order to make it easier for them to visit their homeland, do business and buy houses.

The Vietnamese leader said he hoped the overseas Vietnamese community would advise some of its members not to continue feeling uncomfortable about the past and maintaining their hatred towards their homeland while their homeland and people welcome them to return to their homeland with open arms.

He took the occasion to remind the Vietnamese embassy and its representative agencies in the US that one of their important task is to care for the life of the overseas Vietnamese community.
