Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership anniversary celebrated

Hanoi (VNA) - Since the establishment of the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership Relations a year ago, a large number of Indian investors have come to Vietnam, bringing India to the top 10 investing countries in Vietnam.

The figure was made known at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 4 to mark the first anniversary of the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership Relations.

Over the past year, Vietnam-India ties saw strong and comprehensive development, particularly in economic and trade field. The bilateral trade turnover reached 1.5 billion USD in 2007 and over 1 billion USD in the first three months of this year, including 78 million USD contributed by Vietnam. It is expected to hit 3 billion USD for 2008, an increase of over 50 percent.

The two nations successfully organized the first India-Vietnam Friendship Festival in India in September 2007 and their second festival is scheduled to be held in Vietnam in August this year to mark India’s Independence Day (August 15).

President of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association Hoang Van Phong and Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Lal Thla Muana were reviewing the signing one year ago of the Joint Declaration on the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership Relations during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to India.

They reaffirmed that was an important event, laying a foundation for the two sides to exert efforts to boosting friendship and cooperation.
