Vietnam boosts solidarity with Asia, Africa and Latin America
Hanoi (VNA) – Former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh has suggested Vietnam share its experiences in poverty reduction with Asian, African and Latin American countries.
Binh, who is also Vice Chair of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organisation (AAPSO), told a national congress of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity and Cooperation with Asia, Africa and Latin America in Hanoi on July 11 that Vietnam should also learn about economic development experiences from developed countries in the regions.
During the congress, the fifth of its kind, participants also discussed measures to maintain and accelerate solidarity and cooperation with people in the three regions.
They said the committee should coordinate with organisations in the regions to hold workshops to promote mutual understanding and help boost cooperation in culture, economics and science.
The participants elected the 12-member Presidium for the 2008-2013 tenure, with Pham Van Chuong, former director of the Commission of External Relations of the Party Central Committee being chairman.
The Vietnam Committee for Solidarity and Cooperation with Asia, Africa and Latin America, whose forerunner is the Committee for Solidarity with Asia , was set up in October 19, 1956.
It has been seen as the most active member of the AAPSO in Asia and has made contributions to campaigns to boost solidarity with people in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
