Deputy PM Khiem busy on AMM sidelines


Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem met Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov and Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Stephen Smith on July 23 on the sidelines of the 41 st ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Singapore .

During their meeting, Khiem and Russian FM Lavrov discussed ways to promote bilateral relations, especially to speed up the implementation of agreements on economic, trade, scientific and educational cooperation reached between the two countries’ leaders, as well as the preparations for their leaders’ visits.

The two sides exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern and agreed to continue their close coordination at international forums, thus jointly contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.

They also discussed activities to promote the two foreign ministries’ cooperation.

At his meeting with Australian FM Smith, Deputy PM and FM Khiem highly valued the cooperation between Australia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and hoped that Australia would further promote this cooperation.

The Australian minister said his country is considering assistance to Vietnam in building the Cao Lanh bridge in the Mekong delta province of Dong Thap .

They also discussed the exchange of high-level consul delegations in the coming time with the aim of lifting the two countries’ relationship to new heights.
