Vietnam, UK expected to boost judicial cooperation

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has expressed his wish that judicial cooperation between Vietnam and the UK would be boosted after the visit by Jack Straw, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice of the UK.

Hanoi (VNA) – Receiving Jack Straw in Hanoi on Sept. 11, PM Dung welcomed the UK official’s first Vietnam visit, lasting until Sept. 13, and expressed his delight at the fine development of the Vietnam-UK multifaceted cooperation.

He wished the visit would help create more practical activities to enhance the cooperation between the two justice ministries.

Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw briefed his host of his working session with the Vietnamese counterpart, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in law-making between the two governments.

During their talks earlier on the same day, Vietnamese Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong and Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw briefed each other of their own countries’ socio-economic situations and law reforms, and discussed issues of common concern, including law making, judgement execution and legal assistance.

The working visit by Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw marked an important development of the Vietnam-UK judicial cooperation, contributing to enhancing bilateral relations in investment, trade and legal migration.

The visit is expected to accelerate the implementation of commitments in the two governments’ Joint Statement signed during PM Dung’s visit to the UK in March.
