Vietnam urges Goma peace process on track

“We are deeply concerned about the political, security and humanitarian situations, especially the displacement of civilians in the conflict areas”, Vietnamese ambassador to UNSC Le Luong Minh said at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on September 12.

Hanoi (VNA) – The eruption of fighting in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was high on the agenda of the said meeting.

The diplomat called for an immediate ceasefire by the National Congress for People’s Defense (CNDP) and asked the force and other armed groups to fully respect the Actes d’ Engagement they had undertaken at the Goma Conference.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining the Goma peace process on track and condemned the hostile acts targeting the UN Mission in the DRC (MONUC).

He reiterated Vietnam’s supports for MONUC in discharging its mandate in accordance with Resolutions 1279 and 1794 of the Security Council.
