Ukraine and Vietnam aim for US$1 billion trade

The Ukrainian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ivan Dovganic, says that the two countries should fully exploit their potential for cooperation to match the development of bilateral ties.

In an interview granted to VOV recently, the ambassador affirmed that both Vietnam and the Ukraine have had a close relationship for decades which will lay a firm foundation for promoting bilateral cooperation in the future. Top priority will be given to cooperation in economics, trade, culture, science and technology.

“Both countries should establish a direct air route because visitors and business people have to transit from other countries,” said Mr Dovganic.

He said both Vietnam and Ukraine are new to the WTO and the signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) will help to raise the two-way trade value to US$1 billion in the coming years from the current US$200 million.

Mr Dovganic, who took office as the Ukrainian ambassador to Vietnam a month ago, said that he will try to facilitate the signing of this FTA during his time in Vietnam.  (VOV)
