Deputy PM pays official visit to Russia
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem paid an official visit to Russia from Sept. 13-16 at the invitation of the Russian Government.
Moscow (VNA) - During the visit, Deputy PM Khiem met with Deputy of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov and held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
At the talks, Deputy PM Khiem and FM Lavrov highly appreciated the current situation and prospect for development of the Vietnam-Russia strategic partnership and agreed that the two sides have much potential for developing the bilateral relations.
Deputy PM Khiem hailed Russia ’s achievements in implementing macro projects and socio-economic development programme to constantly improve living conditions of the Russian people and strengthen Russia ’s role as one of leading powerful countries in the world.
FM Lavrov acknowledged impressive achievements of Vietnam in its national renewal process and the country’s increasing prestige at the international arena.
The two FMs expressed pleasure at the regular dialogue mechanism at highest levels of the two countries and expressed their hope to strengthen the mechanism.
They both expressed concerns on coordination between the two sides to solve bilateral and international urgent issues.
They stressed that the two sides attached importance to cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economy-trade, investment, culture, science, education and training, and in fuel-energy.
The two sides also plan to expand cooperation based on the signed agreements, speed up large-scale cooperation projects on energy, machine manufacturing and mining industry.
The two FMs exchanged views on international issues, sharing the same views on several regional and international important issues.
Deputy PM Khiem stressed on Vietnam ’s standpoint of supporting peaceful solutions for international disputes and support Russia in promoting peace and cooperation at Caucasus region.
The two sides expressed their wish to continue coordination at international organisations, firstly at the UN Security Council and regional forums to build a world of democracy and equality in strict compliance with the basic rules of international law and the UN Charter.
They also exchanged views on situation of the Asia-Pacific region, discussed measures to boost dialogues between Russia and ASEAN, and the prospect to set up coordination between ASEAN and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
After the talks, the two FMs signed a cooperation plan between the two ministries for the 2009-2010 period.
