Germany’s Reunification Day marked
The Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association (VGFA) held a meeting in Hanoi on September 30 in celebration of the 18 th anniversary of Germany ’s Reunification Day (Oct. 3, 1990-2008).
Hanoi (VNA) – Speaking at the event, attended by the German Ambassador to Vietnam Rolf Schulze, the VGFA President Hoang Van said Vietnam and Germany have enjoyed a good bilateral relationship during 2008, with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Germany in March and a visit to Vietnam by the German Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier in February.
In addition to visits by high-ranking politicians, the two countries have worked together to cultivate trade, cultural and educational relations. Germany now ranks 19 th among 81 countries and territories investing in Vietnam and 5 th among 25 EU countries. Two-way trade between the two countries exceeded 3 billion USD last year.
Earlier this month, Vietnam and Germany opened a joint university in Ho Chi Minh City , which is considered a symbol of the practical education and training partnership between the two countries.
Germany is now home to approximately 100,000 Vietnamese people.
