Vietnam, Cuba to deepen fraternal friendship
The two sides informed each other of the current conditions in their respective countries and agreed upon a range of measures to further boost the traditional fraternal friendship enjoyed by the two nations.
They exchanged views relating to regional and international issues of mutual concern and praised highly the close working relationship, effective support and mutual cooperation from each side at international organisations and multilateral forums, contributing to the protection of mutual benefits and improving the level of trust between the nations in the international arena.
Addressing the current global situation, including the effects of climate change, inflation and the global financial crisis, both sides agreed to expand upon their current levels of cooperation to limit potential risks to each nation.
Vice President Doan expressed her deep sympathy over the great losses suffered by Cuba as a result of the recent hurricanes Gustav and Ike and said she hoped that the Cuban people would soon overcome their current difficulties and return to their normal daily lives.
The Vietnamese Vice President affirmed that Vietnam is ready to help Cuba ensure food security through the loan of rice or by sending a number of technicians and youth volunteers to the country.
On this occasion, Vice President Doan stated that Vietnam has decided to initially provide Cuba with 300,000 USD and 300 tonnes of rice worth 200,000 USD to help them deal with the aftermath of the disasters.
Carlos Lage Davila affirmed that the Cuban Party and State will continue their ongoing efforts to deepen the fraternal friendship between the two countries.
On the same day, Vice State President Doan held talks with Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, President of the Cuban National Assembly and Fernando Remires de Estenos, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and Head of the Party Commission for External Relations.
