Vietnam, Laos set tasks for border affairs

Vientiane (VNA) – Vietnamese and Lao officials reviewed the work on border affairs between the two countries in the past year and discussed what remains to be done at their 18 th annual meeting in Vientiane on Dec. 28.

Uncontrolled migration, unregistered marriage and the implementation of investment projects in areas along the two countries’ shared border were top issues in the discussion.

The two delegations, led by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Xuan Son and his Lao counterpart Bounkeut Sangsomsak, also looked for measures to better implement a project on planting more markers along the border and upgrading existing ones, which was launched in September this year.

At the meeting, a number of units and individuals were awarded friendship orders and medals in honour of their contributions in the field.
