Mozambique seeks stronger ties with southern hub

VNA - Foreign Minister Oldemiro Julio Baloi expressed major interest in building a programme of comprehensive cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City during his talks with the municipal mayor on April 4.

Baloi assured Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan of his government’s high respect to friendship and all-round cooperation with the Southeast Asian nation.

“The two nations both are fully aware of the value of freedom, both have undergone a period of centralization economy and both are catching development opportunities and gearing towards a market economy,” said the African country’s minister.

He added that HCM City’s experience and achievements have made strong stimuli to the struggle for poverty reduction in  Mozambique, which is embarking on wheat growing and bio-energy development in an effort to overcome the on-going economic crisis.

In return, the HCM City leader pledged to implement high-level commitments, thus bringing economic, scientific and technological, cultural and educational cooperation to match political ties that the two countries are basking in.

Quan also called on the Mozambique Government to support  Vietnam in its efforts for the world recognition of a full market economy status as well as in forums on bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation, especially in cooperation with  Africa .

Mozambique  Foreign Minister Baloi and his delegates are to leave Vietnam on April 5./.
