Binh Dinh looks for Chinese investors

VNA - Central Binh Dinh province has called upon Chinese businesses to invest in its local woodwork industry, said a provincial official.

The chairman of the Binh Dinh provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Thien, made the request at a seminar on the opportunities for investments into woodwork exports between Binh Dinh and China’s Guangdong province held in Quy Nhon city on May 19.

At the seminar, which drew the participation of more than 100 woodwork producers from central Vietnamese provinces and 21 enterprises from Guangdong’s Dongguan Furniture Association, the provincial chairman briefed the Chinese investors on the province’s potential as it has 400,000 ha of forests.

Binh Dinh is home to 110 woodworking enterprises with a total investment capital of 53 million USD and 30,000 workers, he said, adding that woodwork exports now account for 80 percent of the province’s total annual export turnover.

Thien said that the province plans to zone off 1,000 ha in the Cat Lam and Cat Hiep Industrial Complexes for expanding the woodwork industry.

He also expressed his wishes that partners from Guangdong will help local businesses in trade promotion, production, new technologies, training and finding new markets.

The President of the Dongguan Furniture Association said after the seminar that a delegation of Chinese businesses will visit and study the possibilities of working with local woodwork manufacturers.

Dongguan is the largest woodwork producing area in China and home to 2,200 furniture businesses. The Dongguan Furniture Association alone boasts 290 member companies./.
