France praises VN’s contribution as UNSC president

VNA 31/10/2009 - As president of the United Nations Security Council, Vietnam has contributed to the council’s work of protecting peace and international security, said a French senator.

The compliment was delivered by President of the French Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces, Josselin de Johan, during his talks with Vietnamese Ambassador Le Luong Minh, who is the UNSC President, in New York on October 29.

Senator Josseline de Johan also praised Vietnam ’s achievements in socio-economic development as well as its open foreign policy. He said he believed that Vietnam would gain more prestige on the international arena.

On his part, Ambassador Le Luong Minh acknowledged the fine developments in the relations between Vietnam and France and thanked the government of France for supporting and cooperating with Vietnam in conducting the UNSC mission.

He said Vietnam and France share a lot of common interests and points of view on almost all issues under the working agenda of the UNSC and the UN, including the UN reform. This is a foundation for a more effective collaboration between the two countries in the coming time, the ambassador said./.
