Deputy PM: VN-Russia ties have great potential
The Deputy PM made the statement while meeting visiting Russian Minister for Economic Development E. S. Nabiullina in Hanoi on Aug. 23.
He expressed his belief that the prospect was based on the ongoing quality development of political, economic, cultural and education cooperation between the two countries and the active preparations from both sides for negotiations of the bilateral free trade agreement.
Deputy PM Hai expressed his hope that the two sides would set up joint ventures in mechanical engineering, chemicals and pharmaceutical industry, and that Russia’s potential in Vietnam would lead to an expansion of Southeast Asian and Asian markets.
Minister E. S. Nabiullina expressed her pleasure at the fine development of relations between the two countries despite the global economic downturn and highly appreciated the implementation of some major projects in energy and banking, stressing that energy was a top priority in Vietnam-Russia cooperation.
Deputy PM Hai affirmed that Russia was Vietnam’s strategic partner in energy. In oil and gas, the two sides have carried out bilateral cooperation projects and expanded cooperation with third partners.
Besides projects in oil and gas, electricity and coal, Vietnam wants to speed up cooperation projects on nuclear power with Russia, he said./.
