Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai pays official visit to Iceland

(VGP - 10/09/2011) - Viet Nam will create more favorable conditions for Icelandic firms to invest and do business in the country, especially to boost the bilateral cooperation in seafood, information technology, mineral processing and renewable energy, stated Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai.

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai, during the ongoing official visit to Iceland, made the statement on September 9 when meeting representatives of Icelandic ministries and firms.

Icelandic Economy Minister Arni Pall Arnarson said Viet Nam and Iceland have great sea economy, so they can boost seafood cooperation effectively.

Mr. Palmi S. Palmason, General Director of Icelandic group Portunus, said his group has recently bought a tra fish processing plant in Viet Nam and is seeking opportunities to help sustainable development of the country’s fishery. “Viet Nam has an annual output of up to 4 million tons of seafood. The figure can increase if the country applies fishing and processing technologies like Iceland’s,” Mr. Palmason stated.

Mr. Sveinn Baldvinsson, General Director of Icelandic group Kalan Mobile, said his firm wants to cooperate with Vietnamese partners about investment in renewable energy. Iceland is the world’s leading geothermal electricity technology owner.

Some Icelandic investors showed their interest in cooperating with Vietnamese partners in tourism, management training, finance.

On the same day, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai visited the geothermal power plant of Hellisheidi, the second biggest of its kind in the world.
