Viet Nam-China Land Border Joint Committee meets in Ha Noi

(VGP – 29/02/2012) - The Viet Nam-China Land Border Joint Committee held its second session from February 24 to 27 in Ha Noi.
 

 

At the session, the officials gave positive evaluations of the close cooperation between the two countries’ ministries, agencies and border localities in realizing the Protocol on land border demarcation and marker planting; the Agreement on border management regulations; the Agreement on border gates; the Regulation on management of land border gates; and other decisions of the Joint Committee.

Both sides discussed orientations to implement border management work in the coming time and agreed to early finalize necessary procedures for the official opening of  the second border gate of the Lao Cai-Ha Khau international border gate and upgrade and open new border gates.

They agreed to set up a communication mechanism on border gates and speed up the negotiations for an agreement on free movements of vessels in the Bac Luan River mouth and another agreement on cooperation in tapping tourism potential at the Ban Gioc Waterfall area.

The two sides also reached consensus on maintaining and protecting security and social order in the shared border areas, combat illegal immigration, human and drug trafficking and cross-border crime, and raise the awareness of people living along the border of the need to respect the borderlines.

The session took place in an atmosphere of friendship and frankness, contributing to developing the Viet Nam-China land border into a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The next session is scheduled for Q4, 2012 in Beijing, China./.
