Viet Nam supports a strong, unified ASEAN

(VGP-3/4/2012) – Viet Nam totally supports the theme “ASEAN: One Community, One Destiny” of the 20th ASEAN Summit, affirmed PM Nguyen Tan Dung at the plenary session.

A strong, unified and closely-connected ASEAN is not only the common interest of the whole region but also the strategic target of the member states.

Regarding ASEAN Community building, PM Dung called on other ASEAN member states to work out effective measures to realize the target of building ASEAN Community.

He also urged ASEAN to boost cooperation in agricultural production to ensure food security and maintain the stance towards issues of common concern in its interface.

PM Dung proposed that ASEAN connectivity should be a priority for cooperation within the region and with partners.

The Vietnamese government leader also recommended institutionalizing the bloc’s participation in G20 Summit, realizing the ASEAN road network and the Singapore-Kunming rail route, and strengthening connectivity among ASEAN sea ports.

Later the same day, ASEAN leaders met with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, civil-society organizations, and ASEAN Youth.
