DPM receives Chair of APEC Vision Group

VGP - Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on Friday hosted a reception for Chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Vision Group Allan Wagner who was former FM of Peru.

Deputy PM Minh expressed his delight at the positive development in Viet Nam-Peru relations over the recent years, affirming Viet Nam attaches importance to strengthening and expanding friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Peru, especially in areas of economics, trade and investment.

He highly spoke of the role played by Peru and Mr. Allan Wagner as the Chair of APEC Vision Group, suggesting the two sides continue close coordination to figure out new orientations for APEC cooperation beyond 2020.

Mr. Allan Wagner highly appraised Viet Nam’s reform and international integration achievements as well as the Southeast Asian country’s contributions to APEC since the country joined the forum 20 years ago, particularly the success of the APEC Year 2017.

Wagner agreed to continue fostering the two countries’ relations and sustaining bilateral coordination at multi-lateral forums, especially the United Nations and the APEC, and in realization of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

He also vowed to beef up cooperation between Viet Nam Nam and ASEAN with Latin American countries.

Wagner spoke highly of Viet Nam’s role to initiate the establishment of the APEC Vision Group at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week last year as well as Viet Nam’s contribution as the Vice Chair of the Group.

The two sides consented to join hand in build up a new APEC vision to foster free and open trade and investment, regional economic connectivity, and maintain the role of the Asia-Pacific region as a driving force of global economic growth and connectivity.

Earlier the same day, Wagner attended a conference themed “Viet Nam and APEC: A journey of 20 years and the path ahead” that took place in Ha Noi./.
