Cabinet members speak of priorities in new jobs


The Government will reduce numbers of deputy ministers and intermediary agencies in the coming time, newly-appointed Minister of Home Affairs Tran Van Tuan told the press.

Tuan said the merger of ministries will be considered carefully on the basis that specialised departments and general departments be set up and that the arrangements will be made with a view to bringing cadres’ capabilities into full play.

On the qualification of cadres, he said besides degrees and diplomas, resume with work experience, firmness in practical conditions and accomplishments should be taken into account, the minister stressed.

Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong said his greatest concern is to help the Government and National Assembly complete the system of legal documents with the institution for the socialist market-oriented economy being the focus.

Improving laws on state apparatus to make it a state of law, strengthening the role of court and bringing public services closer to the people are among other jobs enjoying priorities, the Justice Minister said.

He attached particular importance to the expansion of direct democracy, explaining that Viet Nam has only had indirect democracy well promoted.

Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan paid attention to improving labourers’ knowledge and skills. The only female minister of the new cabinet said vocational training is very important in the current stage as half of the country’s population are under-35 workers.

With experiences taken from previous positions, Minister Ngan pledged to start her new job with highest sense of responsibility.- (VNA)
