PM pledges effective use of WB loans, aid
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has pledged to effectively utilise loans and aid provided by the World Bank (WB).
While receiving WB Country Director in Viet Nam Ajay Chhibber on Nov. 16, PM Dung stressed that Viet Nam desires to boost cooperation with the bank in a more effective and practical manner, particularly in the fields of traffic infrastructure development, energy, education and training.
On his part, Chhibber spoke highly of Viet Nam ’s economic achievements and reforms.
He said just two months after WB President Robert Zoellick’s visit to Viet Nam , the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD)’s loans have been disbursed rapidly.
The government leader appreciated the WB’s aid in recent years, especially its decision to provide Viet Nam with loans channelled through the IBRD along with capital sourced from the International Development Association (IDA), describing this as a new cooperation step between the Viet Nam and the WB.
PM Dung took the occasion to express thanks to the WB as well as President Robert Zoellick for their close cooperation in financing hunger eradication, poverty reduction and sustainable development.
Chhibber informed his host that WB Viet Nam is working hard in preparation for the Donor Consultative Meeting scheduled for later this year, and hoped that the Vietnamese PM will attend the event. (VNA)
