Viet Nam’s one year WTO membership marked in Switzerland


Brussels (VNA) – The Vietnamese missions to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva hosted a reception on January 10 to mark the country’s one year membership of the the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Vietnamese charge d’affaires Pham Quoc Tru took the occasion to affirm that V iet Nam will spare no efforts to fully implement its commitments and membership duties towards the WTO.
“Viet Nam will actively contribute to the organisation’s activities, especially the Doha negotiations,” he said.
The diplomat highlighted Viet Nam ’s important socio-economic achievements since it joined the WTO, especially a high GDP growth rate and record foreign direct investment attraction, which he said reflected the positive impacts of WTO membership.
He also spoke about challenges that Viet Nam is facing and called for continued support from the WTO’s secretariat and other member economies.
WTO’s Deputy Director General Harsha V. Singh expressed his belief that Viet Nam will reap more successes in socio-economic development as well as international integration, contributing to the development of the global trade system.
