Viet Nam, EU discuss immigration control
Ha Noi (VNA) - Officials and experts of Viet Nam, the European Union (EU) and international organisations sat down at the first ever EU-Viet Nam workshop on immigration in Ha Noi on January 17 to discuss cooperation in control of illegal immigration and organised criminals.
They exchanged information on illegal immigration and experiences in receiving illegal immigrants returning home.
Addressing the workshop, Deputy Director of the Security Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security Hoang Duc Chinh stressed that the cooperation in this issue is part of an overall programme between the Ministry and EU partners as defined in the Viet Nam-EU Relationship Master Plan and the Government’s Plan of Action by 2010 and towards 2015.
The workshop was the result of negotiations between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the EU’s immigration-related working group over the recent months.
According to French Ambassador to Viet Nam Herve Bolot, the cooperation was positively manifested by exchanging information through Interpol and Europol, international conferences, protocols or communications.
In addition, the two sides also intensified cooperation through bilateral discussions, conferences, workshops, training courses and exchange of high-level delegations.
