Vietnam obtains great economic achievements

Hanoi (VNA) – The Austria Press Agency (APA) has run an article highlighting Vietnam’s great economic achievements during Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s state visit to Austria.

Vietnam is currently a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Austria is a candidate for the post next year, the APA said.

Austria and Vietnam established official diplomatic ties in 1972, when northern Vietnam was raided by the US air strikes. The then Austrian prime minister, Bruno Kreisky, and foreign minister, Rudolf Kirchschlacger, strongly supported Austria’s recognition of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Vietnam is opening door for economics, the agency said, adding that the country became a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 2007.

Vietnam obtained great economic achievements in recent years with annual economic growth of between 7 percent and 9 percent and per-capita income doubling in 10 years.

Vietnam has been getting attractive for Austrian businesses. According to statistics from the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO), last year Vietnam’s export to Austria increased 21 percent and import rose 16.5 percent.

The Vietnamese government has exerted efforts to improve conditions and environment for foreign investors.
